Umeko Laird of Owl & Raven
Umeko lives in a small shore line community in Nova Scotia, Canada. She spent much of her childhood rummaging through the forest, searching for small treasures on the beach or doing any kind of artwork she could get her hands on. Being raised in this environment gave her an active imagination.
Umeko recently returned to Nova Scotia after spending a few years living in Vancouver, B.C. She's happy to be back in a small community where she has time to pursue her artwork. She loves to spend time connecting with nature and incorporates it into much of what she creates. Most of her paintings are surreal and odd dream like images that combine different elements of nature. All of the stones, shells, sand, coral, moss, bones and beach glass she uses to create her jewellery with she scavenges herself from the shores and forests in Nova Scotia.
"It's like being a child again, searching for treasures to see what I can create with them. It feels right, like this is where I am suppose to be." ~ Raven
